The technical bench of the Uganda Cranes has decided that Bidvest Wits second choice goalkeeper Dennis Onyango will be flown straight to Madagascar for a 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifier after the Nedbank Cup final.

Head Coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic told Botswana Premier League that they will make sure they get the experienced goalkeeper on the first flight form Johannesburg on the day of the match.

Onyango’s Bidvest Wits will be involved in the Nedbank Cup final against Orlando Pirated on May 17th evening, a day before Madagascar host the Cranes in the first leg of the preliminary round qualifier.

Sredojevic explained that they are not going to take any chances because Ethiopian based goalkeeper Robert Odonkara is also injured.

“Yes we have other local based goalkeepers and also invited Hamza Muwonge from his Kenyan based team, but we need Onyango in Madagascar,” added the coach.

The Cranes who started training on Wednesday have had injury worries to Odonkara and Vietnam based Moses Oloya, while Tony Mawejje’s availability is also not certain.

Sredojevic said they need to travel with a strong side to Madagascar because away games have always proved so difficult. “We need to take a strong squad so that we can be able to get a good result before our home game,” reasoned who added that the Island based team should not be underrated because they are lowly ranked.

In-case Uganda Cranes eliminate Madagascar, they will move to the last hurdle of the preliminary to face the winner between Mauritania and Equatorial Guinea.
