Maritzburg United coach Steve Komphela says he was satisfied with his side’s performance during Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Mamelodi Sundowns although he believes they should have won the game.
The Team of Choice opened the scoring through Heinrich Isaacks and had a few opportunities to add to their tally before Alje Schut netted the equaliser at the death to rescue a point for the newly-crowned Absa Premiership champions.
“Party-poopers they called us – almost – but Alje Schut came to their rescue,” Komphela said.
“It was a good game of football and I’m sure the people who came to witness this must be saying ‘what a nice game of football’.
“I thought we had enough opportunities to wrap it up; (Bongolwethu) Jayiya had two chances and Philani Zulu had another one. Then we conceded from a setpiece in the dying minutes.
“You could see in their (Sundowns) bench that they were desperate and they wanted to get at least a point out of it.
“For us, I would say it’s two points dropped but for them it’s a point salvaged.”
Maritzburg United have ended the 2013/14 campaign in 10th
place with 38 points from 30 matches.
