French Ligue 1 outfit SC Bastia are lining up Côte d’Ivoire’s coach Hervé Renard as a possible replacement for Claude Makelele on the bench, according to L’Equipe.

The former French international was sacked in early November after only 12 games in charge, leaving his club second from bottom in the standings.

Currently under the technical guidance of caretaker coach Ghislain Printant, the Corsican club failed to convince Frédéric Antonetti to resume a third spell with the Sporting.

Under contract with the Ivoirian Football Federation until July 2016, Renard is no stranger to the Ligue 1 after his seven-month stint at Sochaux between October 2013 and May 2014.

The former Zambia boss has just qualified the Elephants for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations’ finals in Equatorial Guinea, which will take place between January 17 and February 8.

Hervé Renard could hold talks with Bastia’s officials this week.
