Al Ahly’s coach Juan Carlos Garrido has heavily criticised Gabonese referee Eric Arnaud Otogo Castane following their 2-1 loss to Séwé Sport in Abidjan on Saturday, in the first leg of the 2014 CAF Confederation Cup’s final.
Midfielder Christian Koffi Kouamé put the locals ahead after 25 minutes from the penalty spot. And while the Red Devils managed to level matters just before the hour-mark thanks to Mahmoud Hassan ‘Trezeguet’, Roger Assalé gave the full points to the Ivoirians ten minutes from time.
However, Garrido openly questioned the integrity of the referee after the game.
“CAF officials must review that game, the referee is the reason behind our loss,” the Spaniard said.
“The ref disallowed a legitimate goal for Sherif Abdel-Fadil without an obvious reason.
“He intentionally cautioned Trezeguet to deny him taking part in the second leg in Cairo.”
Juan Carlos Garrido was also asked to leave the post-match press conference after refusing to have his comments translated into French for the local media.
The Cairo giants will host Séwé on Saturday in the return leg of the final.
