Mochudi Centre Chiefs defeated Jwaneng Galaxy 2-1 in a Mascom Top 8 Cup quarter-final first-leg match at the Lobatse Sports Complex on Friday night.

The second-leg encounter is scheduled to take place at the Jwaneng Stadium on the 11th of December 2017.

The match got off to a lively start and it was the visitors, who managed to break the deadlock in the opening stages of the game.

Patrick Kaunda beat Chiefs’ veteran goalkeeper Noah Maposa to make it 1-0 to Galaxy three minutes into the encounter.

The hosts then pushed for the equalizing goal and Innocent Morapedi’s men did level matters in the 15th minute.

Khumoetsile Kufigwa was the man, who scored to make it 1–1 for Chiefs much to the delight of the Magosi fans in the stadium.

Chiefs, who have never won the Mascom Top 8 Cup, took the lead for the first time five minutes after the half-hour mark.

Lesego Galenamotlhala netted to make it 2-1 to Chiefs, who then held on to their lead until the match referee blew the half-time whistle.

Galaxy, who are coached by Zambian tactician Mike Sithole, launched attacks in the second-half as they looked to restore parity.

However, the defending champions found it difficult to beat Botswana international Maposa in Chiefs goal-posts.

Ultimately, Chiefs secured a 2-1 victory over Galaxy after containing the defending champions in the closing stages of the game.

Former Nico United striker Kufigwa, who levelled matters for Chiefs on the night, was named Man of the Match.
