Extension Gunners have started their preparations for their 2017/18 Mascom Top 8 Cup clash with Gaborone United.

Mapantsola are coming off a morale-boosting 2-1 win over Botswana Defence Force (BDF) XI in a BTC Premiership match which was played in Lobatse on Sunday.

Itumeleng Duicker, the Gunners head coach, was pleased with Mothusi Cooper's performance against BDF at the Lobatse Sports Complex.

"We have been working on his confidence on the ball," Duicker said.

"His tactical awareness has improved and I am convinced he will make it big time this season.

The promising midfielder was part of the Botswana Under-20 side that competed in the 2016 U20 COSAFA Cup in South Africa.

"We do have injuries and suspensions, which means we rely mostly on our young players," Duicker continued.

"You should also understand that five of our young stars will take part in Botswana games.

"So it is not easy but we will fight as we are preparing for Mascom Top 8 Cup games this coming weekend."

Gunners will host GU in a quarter-final second-leg match at the Francistown Sports Complex on Saturday.

GU defeated Gunners 3-0 at the National Stadium in the first-leg clash last month.
