Gaborone United overcame Extension Gunners 3-2 in a Mascom Top 8 Cup quarter-final second-leg match at the Francistown Sports Complex on Saturday afternoon.
The win sees Moya Goleele advance to the semi-finals after winning the quarter-final tie 6-2 on aggregate, while Mapantsola are eliminated from the lucrative competition.
GU had thrashed Gunners 3-0 at home in the first-leg encounter which was played at the National Stadium a fortnight ago.
Obonwe Maome looked lively for Moya Goleele in the first-half and the promising attacking midfielder managed to hit the back of the twice for the visitors.
As a result, GU were leading 2-0 at half-time. Gunners had to find a way to beat GU’s talented goalkeeper Goitseone Phoko in the second-half.
An entertaining second-half followed as Gunners were able to score twice through
Francis Olaki and Thabo Metlhayotlhe to make it 2-2 for the hosts.
However, Maome had other ideas as the former Botswana youth international sealed GU’s 3-2 victory when he beat Gunners keeper Katlego Mbise for the third time on the day.
Maome, who had netted an impressive hat-trick, walked away with the Man of the Match accolade. GU joined Orapa United in the semi-finals.
