Jwaneng Galaxy defeated Mochudi Centre Chiefs 3-1 in a Mascom Top 8 Cup quarter-final second-leg match at the Jwaneng Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The win sees Galaxy book their place in the semi-finals after winning 4-3 on aggregate, while Chiefs crash out of the tournament.
Chiefs went into the encounter having secured a 2-1 home victory over Galaxy in the first-leg match at the Lobatse Sports Complex two weeks ago.
The hosts got off to the perfect start as they broke the deadlock four minutes into the match much to the delight of the home crowd.
Botswana international Thero Setsile was the man, who beat Chiefs’ experienced goalkeeper Noah Maposa to make it 1-0 Galaxy.
Chiefs were unable to level matters before the half-time break and as a result, Galaxy were leading 1-0 at the interval.
The two sides were locked at 2-2 on aggregate, but Galaxy looked set to advance to the next round on the away goals rule.
The hosts doubled their lead 15 minutes after the restart through Setsile, who beat former Township Rollers keeper Maposa for the second time to make it 2-0 to Galaxy.
Chiefs attacked in numbers in the latter stages of the game and the visitors managed to grab a late goal in stoppage time.
Galaxy shot-stopper Ezekiel Morake was beaten by Chiefs forward Tendai Nyamadzawo, who made it 2-1 in stoppage time.
The home side won 2-1 on the day and extra-time followed as the quarter-final tie had ended in a 3-3 draw on aggregate.
Terrance Mandaza extended Galaxy’s lead a few minutes into the first-half of extra-time. The hosts were now leading 3-1 on the day and 4-3 on aggregate.
Galaxy managed to hold on to their two-goal lead and ultimately, they emerged 3-1 winners on the day.
