Township Rollers head coach Nikola Kavazovic was pleased with his players’ effort against Extension Gunners on Sunday afternoon.
Popa defeated Gunners 1-0 thanks to Desire Bafana’s own goal in a BTC Premiership match at the Lobatse Sports Complex.
“I must congratulate my players, they did well against a team that is difficult for us to play against,” Kavazovic said.
“In the first half when it was eleven against eleven we were the better side, we attacked and we did not allow Gunners the chance to get the ball into our area.
Rollers were reduced to 10 men after Ugandan central defensive midfielder Ivan Ntege was sent off in the first-half.
“But Ntege got the red card and Gunners had more of the ball in the second half, they had two or three good chances, but our team fought hard, we defended well,” the Serbian coach continued.
“At half time, I told the team to attack for another 15 or 20 minutes and then defend the lead. During the second half I gave the signal to the players to defend, and I made the substitutions to strengthen our defensive play.
“After 15 competitive league and cup games, we have won 12 and drawn three. We deserve a rest, we want to come back strong in the new year.”
Undefeated Rollers are heading into the festive break sitting at the top of the league standings with 33 points from 13 games. They are 11 points above second-placed Jwaneng Galaxy.
