Township Rollers team manager Motshegetsi Mafa has praised the club’s supporters for their role following Popa’s hard-fought victory on Sunday.
Rollers secured a 1-0 win over Extension Gunners in an action-packed BTC Premiership match which was played at the Lobatse Sports Complex.
Popa had to dig deep to win following the dismissal of Ugandan midfielder Ivan Ntege. The hardman was sent off in the first-half and the Gaborone giants played the entire second-half with 10 players.
"It was not easy, we came into the match short of options in attack and towards the end of the first half we went a man down after the red card to Ivan Ntege,” Mafa told the club’s website.
“In the second half Gunners dominated all over us, our team fought hard to maintain the 1-0 lead and eventually we won.
“On behalf of the technical team, I want to thank the supporters for the role they played in this match,” he continued.
“Even when it seemed as if Gunners would have the upper hand, our supporters never stopped singing and cheering on the team.
“This is commendable, we would like to see the fans do that more, giving their team the moral lift when things become tough.”
Rollers are heading into the festive break sitting comfortably at the top of the league standings with 33 points from 13 games.
Popa, who remain undefeated having recorded 10 wins and three draws, are 11 points above second-placed Jwaneng Galaxy.
