Township Rollers captain Captain Maano Ditshupo says they executed their game plan well against Sudanese giants Al Merrikh on Saturday.
Botswana Premier League side Rollers stunned Merrikh 3-0 in the 2018 CAF Champions League preliminary round first-leg match at the National Stadium in Gaborone.
"We were playing against one of the top teams in Africa [ranked 5], and although the job is not complete, we have placed ourselves in a very good position,” he said.
“We wanted to get the goals at home and prevent them from getting the away goal and we did just that.
Rollers are hoping to reach the group stage of the Champions League for the first time in history.
“But we know that this is not the first time that Al-Merrikh has conceded goals away from home, and we know they normally play a very attacking game at home,” he added.
“So we know that this is not over. But we are very happy to have got the three goal lead.”
The second-leg match will take place at the Al-Merrikh Stadium in Omdurman on Wednesday, the 21st of February 2018.
The winner on aggregate will face either Tanzanian side Young Africans or Saint Louis Suns United of Seychelles in the first round.
