BFA concerned after Motswana woman raped at COSAFA Cup

The Botswana Football Association (BFA) is concerned about the rape incident that allegedly took place during the ongoing 2018 COSAFA Cup in Polokwane, South Africa.

Recent reports have indicated that a Motswana woman has been raped at the regional tournament. The lady is said to be a backroom staff and a volunteer from Botswana.

The BFA released the following statement:

“The Botswana Football Association would like to put it on record that it does not condone any form of abuse or violence carried out against any persons.”

“We have noted with concern reports of a Motswana woman who is said to have been raped at the ongoing COSAFA tournament.”

“The aforesaid woman is rumoured to be a backroom staff and a volunteer from Botswana.”

“Let it be on record that the Zebras does not have any backroom staff member who is female and we have not received any report of any its female delegation who has been raped. We would like to distance the team from these allegations.”

“The only female personnel associated with the Zebras is the media Liaison who is safe and continue to enjoy good health.”

“The organising committee of COSAFA in an effort to empower local communities’ gets volunteers from the hosting country. Henceforth we denounce the individual alleging to have been raped as having an official capacity from Botswana,” a statement read.
