South Africa beat Botswana 3-0 to lift the 2018 COSAFA Cup Plate trophy at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Friday.
The hosts came from a 4-1 win over Namibia in the semi-finals whilst their neighbours defeated Swaziland 2-0.
Despite a slow start to the match, Bafana Bafana had the upper hand when it comes to ball possession, but they could not find their way through.
They came close to breaking the deadlock in the 18th minute when Siphesihle Ndlovu’s half volley sailed inches wide.
The deadlock was finally broken when Motjeka Madisha scored with a well taken header in the 38th minute, beating the Botswana keeper on his near post.
It was 1-0 at half time.
Three minutes into the second stanza, Botswana came close to finding an equaliser through Onkabetse Makgantai whose effort hit the crossbar.
Against the run of play, Bafana doubled their lead through Aubrey Modiba in the 79th minute after catching the visitors on a counter attack.
Maboe made it three after selling the keeper a dummy in a one-on-one scenario in the 88th minute, 3-0
Bafana held on to their lead as they comfortably defeated their neighbours and clinched the Plate final.
