Botswana Premier League (BPL) champions Township Rollers won a pre-season tournament ahead of their 2018 CAF Champions League Group A clash with Egyptian giants Al Ahly.
The Blues won the pre-season Matebejana tournament played at the National Stadium on Sunday; goals from Boyo Lechaena and Joel Mogorosi handing Popa a 2-0 win over host club Matebejana in the final, the club said on its website.
The Blues had won their semifinal 3-0 in a penalty shootout after the semifinal against Extension Gunners had ended goalless, while Matebejana had won their semi 4-0 against Mochudi Centre Chiefs.
Popa dominated throughout against a promising Matebejana side; the Lechaena and Mogorosi goals just two of many chances created.
Rollers started with Wagarre Dikago, Ivan Ntege, Kago Monyake, Tshepo Motlhabankwe, Obuile Oscar Ncenga, Gape Mohutsiwa, Motsholetsi Sikele, Maano Ditshupo, Joel Mogorosi, Edwin Moalosi and Boyo Lechaena.
Having had the better of the early exchanges, Rollers opened the scoring in the seventh minute through Boyo ‘Vuyo’ Lechaena.
It ended that way, as Rollers now prepare for next weekend’s CAF Champions League match against Al-Ahly.
